After hearing about possible construction work, Travis took the bus to New Haven, CT. and checked into The Duncan, a residential hotel. He quickly befriended a young man in the next room, John Hinckley. John, who clearly came from money, was organizing a political movement and refused to discuss his family or his past. He spoke at length about his political party, and his manifesto, which would form the basis of the Revolution. Sometimes John's paranoia and rantings unsettled Travis, but he would still join him for conversations and free dinners. Travis heard less and less about his political passions, as John became fixated upon a woman he called Iris.
