There is little documention of Travis's life in the five years to follow, except from a short tour of duty with the Marines (honorable discharge). Using several aliases, he wandered slowly eastward, picking up odd jobs. He drank no alcohol and spent his evenings writing feverishly in one of several spiral bound notebooks. He hadn't contacted his parents for years. Travis and Christina had always shared a certain bond, but found it difficult to keep track of each other. They led lives without permanent addresses. The last he heard, Christina was raising horses with a woman named Samantha Mulder. That's all he knew.
