Later that same Thanksgiving weekend Uncle Bruno took Travis to the St. Marks Cinema, which meant a ride on the L.I.R.R. all the way into Manhattan. They were running slightly late, and missed the opening credits, but Travis did remember the film was an old black and white one about Joan of Arc. When she saw the woman up on the screen (Joan?) getting her scalp shaved Travis began imagining that it was happening to her. This gave her the same pleasant sensation she felt when she first saw Iris eating a Baby Ruth. But her reverie was interrupted when Uncle Bruno dragged her out of the cinema and into the glare of 2nd Ave. He thought the film was too old and boring.
