While checking the mail for a fireworks catalogue that he had ordered, Travis found a booklet addressed to him from a political sect called the People's Committee for the Simultaneous Creation of Everlasting Peace (PCSCEP). Travis read the booklet many times and was so taken with the group's message that he wrote a letter to the San Francisco chapter president, Jerry Mathews. Jerry wrote back to Travis immediately. The party was already very strong in the cities, according to Jerry's letter. What they most needed were trailblazers like Travis to spread the word to the rural communities. Before long Travis was writing and distributing his own tracts and began to organize a chapter in Sweet Home.
