Travis left The Duncan for New York before the Feds arrived. He had just enough money in savings to pay for a week in a room on West 38th street. While sipping a coffee at the Howard Johnsons, Travis was approached by a stranger. Without explanation or introduction, the man sat across from Travis. "Travis, you have a sister, right? Christina?" Travis nodded. The stranger said that he had a friend in common with Christina, a certain Samantha Mulder. With that, the man reached into his coat and produced a business card. His name was Budd Hopkins and he invited Travis to call him. Travis grabbed the card and rushed out the door. Without paying, without looking back.
