Travis
nodded off at the wheel one night in Texas, and nearly flattened a hitcher. He backed up the Studebaker and offered a him ride.
The hitcher's name was Travis as well, they remarked on this coincidence and then stayed silent for another hour. Finally the second Travis started talking about his wife, and how he loved her so much he had to go into the desert. Travis found all this a bit creepy and lied about having to take the next exit to Pottersville. He left his homonym shuffling forlornly in the shadow of a cloverleaf interchange. He got to Manhattan three days later and managed to offload the Studebaker for a couple of C-notes. That same evening Travis found himself in a wintery Times Square, his body leaning into the cold. |
